Course Objectives
Upon the successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Differentiate between managerial and non-managerial employees.
- Explain basic concepts of management, the skills required of managers working with different concepts of motivation and recognize problems faced in operating a business enterprise.
- Understand the management process.
- Explain a brief history of management’s roots, and the basics of at least three of the classical approaches to management.
- Given a specific case, the student will apply Contingency Theory and explain how it might be used to predict/explain behaviour.
- Describe different decision-making styles and explain how biases affect decision-making.
- Understand the planning, compare and contrast several approaches to goal setting.
- Understand the basics of organizing, and learn how to leading individuals and managing work teams.
- Explain how to motivate and reward employees, and the concept of trust.
- Learn communication and information technology management.
- Understand essential activities of controlling and processes.
Teaching and Learning Methods
The methods include lecturing (which may involve power point presentation, video and audio aids), tutorials, student presentations, projects and class discussions.
